Baccarat Protocols
Baccarat is played with 8 decks of cards in a shoe. Cards of a value less than 10 are valued at their printed number while at the same time ten, J, Q, K are 0, and A are each given a value of 1. Bets are placed upon the ‘banker,’ the ‘player’ or for a tie (these aren’t actual players; they purely represent the two hands to be given out).
2 hands of 2 cards are then played to the ‘banker’ as well as ‘player’. The value for any hand is the sum of the two cards, but the initial digit is discarded. For example, a hand of seven and five results in a total of 2 (sevenplusfive=12; drop the ‘one’).
A third card could be given out depending on the following protocols:
- If the player or banker has a total score of 8 or 9, the two bettors stand.
- If the bettor has 5 or less, he/she hits. bettors stand otherwise.
- If bettor stands, the banker hits of 5 or lower. If the bettor hits, a chart is used in order to decide if the banker stands or hits.
Baccarat Odds
The larger of the 2 scores will be the winner. Successful wagers on the banker pay at 19 to 20 (even odds minus a five % commission. Commission is tracked and paid out when you leave the table so ensure that you have $$$$$ remaining before you leave). Winning bets on the player pay 1 to 1. Winning bets for tie normally pay out eight to 1 and on occasion 9 to one. (This is a bad wager as ties occur less than one every 10 hands. Avoid wagering on a tie. However odds are radically better – 9 to one versus eight to one)
Played smartly, baccarat provides generally good odds, apart from the tie wager ofcourse.
Baccarat Strategy
As with many games, Baccarat has some well-known misconceptions. One of which is similar to a roulette misconception. The past is never actually an indicator of future happenings. Keeping track of prior results on a chart is undoubtedly a waste of paper as well as an insult to the tree that gave its life to be used as our stationary.
The most established and almost certainly most successful strategy is the 1-three-2-6 scheme. This tactic is used to amplify wins and minimizing risk.
start by gambling 1 unit. If you win, add one more to the 2 on the table for a total of three on the second bet. If you win you will have six on the table, take away 4 so you have 2 on the third gamble. If you win the 3rd gamble, add 2 to the four on the table for a sum of 6 on the 4th gamble.
If you don’t win on the initial bet, you suck up a loss of 1. A win on the first bet followed up by loss on the second creates a loss of two. Wins on the first two with a loss on the third gives you a profit of 2. And wins on the first three with a loss on the 4th mean you breakeven. Coming away with a win on all four bets leaves you with twelve, a profit of 10. In other words you can fail to win the second bet 5 times for every successful streak of four bets and still break even.
